On Thursday 13 November, we attended the Learning Disability Wales | Anabledd Dysgu Cymru Annual Conference in Swansea. This sold-out event centred on the theme “My Home Matters”, bringing together individuals with lived experience, organisations and practitioners committed to improving the lives of people with learning disabilities across Wales.

Some highlights from the programme included Richard and Pip at Ategi, whose powerful contribution on their Shared Lives work highlighted the importance of genuine belonging and strong, supportive relationships. Also Wayne Crocker’s workshop (pictured right) from Mencap was extremely useful, offering clear, practical insight into the role of Responsible Individuals in relation to supported living settings.
A standout moment was the interactive performance by Hijinx Theatre (pictured below right), which invited the audience to take part and influence the direction of the piece, a really engaging and memorable example of inclusive theatre.

It was encouraging to see Where I Want to Live featured during the programme, following the Innovation Hour that Practice Solutions delivered with their team earlier this year.
Thanks to the whole Learning Disability Wales team for hosting such a thoughtful and constructive event. It was a valuable day of shared learning and reflection, reinforcing the real importance of creating opportunities that enable people with learning disabilities to thrive.
