Supporting care homes and communities to reconnect, with Age Cymru
We’re proud to have worked alongside Age Cymru to develop a new national campaign that celebrates the real, human side of care homes across Wales.
Open doors, connected lives / Drws agored, bywydau cysylltiedig is about changing perceptions – showing that care homes are places where people continue to grow, create and connect.
This campaign aims to open doors, literally and figuratively, so that people can be part of the vibrant friendships, activities and purpose that thrive within them.
From the outset, we were committed to making sure real-life experiences shine through.
Care home resident, Janet Branch, aged 74, stars in the campaign video and posters:
“To me, this is my home from home and I like it here. You know what I mean? I’m always happy here.”
Janet Branch
Her words capture exactly what this campaign is about – dignity, belonging and happiness.
Practical tools to make connection easier
To help care homes, professionals and communities get involved, a series of free bilingual resources have been launched.
These include:
- A community engagement pack for care homes, full of templates, ideas and tips for opening doors to local communities.
- A briefing pack for health and care professionals to help them talk about care homes in a positive, informed way.
- Posters, social media templates and a powerful campaign video featuring real stories from residents.
All resources are available to download at agecymru.wales/opendoors.
Building a Wales where everyone feels connected
This campaign has reminded us that small actions can make a big difference – a school visit, a community performance, or simply a friendly chat over tea.
“We want to build a Wales where every care home is connected to its community, and every resident feels seen, valued, and part of something bigger.”
Kelly Barr, Arts and Creativity Programme Manager, Age Cymru
If you’re part of a care home team, a community group, or simply someone who wants to get involved, visit the campaign page and help us open more doors and build more connected lives.
