Practice Solutions and ADSS Cymru were commissioned by the Welsh Government to lead a programme of work which contributes to the implementation of the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan.
The aim of this project is to ensure people from ethnic minority backgrounds do not experience barriers to employment or social care, and a zero-tolerance policy on racism.
The project comprised of several phases:
Interpretation and translation services
In June 2023, ADSS Cymru and Practice Solutions published a report examining the use of interpretation and translation services. It built on previous work which examined barriers to the take-up of social care by people from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Recruitment and career progression
In September 2024, ADSS Cymru and Practice Solutions published a study on the recruitment and career progression of staff from ethnic minority backgrounds in social care. Over 100 people were interviewed and surveyed about their lived experiences. The report details the context of the sector today, the feedback from surveys, interviews and engagement, conclusions and recommendations.

Racism in the workplace
In December 2024, ADSS Cymru and Practice Solutions published a report examining racist behaviours and comments in the workplace, including workplace microaggressions, overt discrimination, and gaps in existing policies. The report sets out a plan to advocate for a zero-tolerance approach to racism, fostering an inclusive, equitable workplace for all social care workers and the communities their support.
