I am passionate about championing anti-racism, social justice and discrimination in all its forms by using my EDI platform to empower disadvantaged communities and individuals to have an influential voice in shaping and improving their public services.
Humie, an award-winning equality, diversity and inclusion practitioner, has dedicated 30 years to the public and community sectors. A unique aspect of Humie’s work is her strategic approach to stakeholder engagement, which has been instrumental in championing disadvantaged groups, individuals from minority ethnic backgrounds, and disabled people.
A skilled communicator, Humie empowers these groups, giving them an influential voice in shaping and improving their services and opportunities, while equipping strategic leaders with tools to make impactful changes with understanding and confidence.
Humie works with the Welsh Government on various policy initiatives and her former advisory roles include Co-Chair of the Learning Disability Ministerial Advisory Group (LDMAG), overseeing the implementation of the LD Strategic Action Plan and Improving Lives Programme, and Welsh Government’s Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) Covid-19 Socio-economic Advisory Sub-group that produced the 2020 seminal report identifying the socioeconomic factors influencing the adverse Covid-19 health and social care outcomes for individuals from minority ethnic backgrounds.
Humie also works with public sector organisations to support them in implementing their Anti-racist Wales (AWRAP) Action goals, particularly those related to improvements in the social care complaints, recruitment, and progress processes for people from ethnic minority backgrounds.
As a freelance Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Consultant and Anti-racism trainer, Humie works with a range of organisations, advising on their EDI and anti-racism work and inclusive research methods. Humie is the named EDI consultant for Menstrual Cycle Support’s online course for teenagers and represents RareQol on the University of South Wales’s Ethnic Minority Research Advisory Group (EMRAG), advising on ethical and inclusive approaches to research involving ethnic minorities.
Humie is the TUC Cymru’s Activist Development Programme Facilitator, delivering anti-racism and social justice-focused training to develop the skills of women and ethnic minority members to challenge and reduce discriminatory practice in the workplace effectively.
